The design of this stone house responds to the clients’ desire for a sensitively sited, sustainably designed home that fits the character of its five-acre wooded lot. Placing the building on axis with specimen trees, the house’s spaces are organized around stone walls that extend through the house into the landscape.

Reflecting the interconnectedness of landscape and habitation, the design makes ecologically responsible use of material and natural resources. Sustainably harvested woods, low-VOC materials, passive solar strategies, and a radiant in-floor heating system operating on geothermal energy all contribute to a healthy, comfortable environment, indoor and out. Daylighting strategies and abundant glazing provide access to views, extending the landscape into the house.
